Not long until KO. Match photos will be uploaded as the game progresses, taken, as always, by Dazzler.
3:00 Kick off.
3:02 New player Justin Cochrane will make his debut today. Justin is an international football, having made four appearences for the Antigua and Barbuda national team. Rushden will be his eight club, having previously played for QPR, Crewe, and Millwall.
3:12 Rushden have made the brighter start in the opening few minutes. “A goal hasn’t come yet, but hopefully it will shortly”, says our confident radio commentator. (Radio link)
3:17 The commentator was right, although it is Northwich who score the goal. Strong suspicion of hand ball before the goal, but RDFC didn’t play the whistle. Grrr…
3:24 Northwich still causing Diamonds problems.
3:25 Corcoran handles the ball, the referee’s consistency prevails as he ignores it.
3:26 As it stands Rushden will drop a place to 9th. Northwich have risen from the top of the league to the heady heights of 23rd.
3:34 Kettering have taken the lead, leapfrogging the Diamonds. With Stevenage having also taken the lead, Rushden have dropeed to 11th.
3:37 Kettering 2-0 up.
2nd half. Last season Northwich began their season revival with a win over Rushden. This looks set to repeat again this year. Rushden have 45 minutes to score and salvage something form this match. (Northwich have the worst away defence in the league).
4:31 Gooooooooooooooal! 1-1, that man Sam Smith again.
4:35 Goooooooooooooooooooal! 2-1! Lee Tomlin.
5pm Full time 2-1. Who’d have thought it? Sam Smith the hero again. Rushden remain in 8th place, but the difference between them and a play-off place is 5, rather than 8 points, as it could very easily have been. Heartbreak for the Vics, especially the 34 travelling fans, as they finish the game as they started it – in last place, with survival now eight points away.
