Rushden continue pre-season run…

Above, the club’s training ground in Portugal. Alright for some!

After scoring a hatful against Halstead, Rushden continued their succesful pre-season campaign with a 3-3 draw with Portugese second-tier Portomonese, and a win over second-tier British side Bristol City. Below are photos from the 3-3 draw…

The match kicks off…

A Rankine goal was quickly cancelled out, making it 1-1 at half-time.

Rushden again took the lead in the sweltering heat courtesy of Daryl Clare’s first strike for the club – a “cracking sideways scissor-kick”, according to one fan. However, a defensive lapse meant that Porti again drew level.

This was repeated as the game drew to a close – Rushden again taking the lead (a great 25-yarder courtesy of Woody) – and again threw the lead away thanks to a defensive mix-up. Nonetheless, putting 3 goals past a level-two Portugese side – a side whose recent history includes the UEFA cup, and a league dominance – is not to be sniffed at. Rushden ended their Portugese campaign with a 1-0 win over last year’s Championship play-off finalists; Bristol City. The defensive mistakes were eradicated for the game, which saw Dean McDonald get his first goal for the club.
