Rushden’s pre-season spree reached a suitably energetic end today, with the dual-signing of Sagi Burton and Gareth Jellyman. Subject to passing a medical test, the pair will remain at the club until the end of this (’08-’09) season.
Central defender Burton, 30, began his professional career as a trainee at Crystal Palace and he has made more than 300 first-team appearances with spells at Colchester United, Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra, Peterborough, Shrewsbury Town and Barnet.
Former Welsh under-21 international left-back Jelleyman, 27, above, started out with Peterborough and joined Mansfield Town after a brief loan spell at Boston United four years ago.
The pair impressed on the succesful Portugal tour, and are set to face their former team Posh in Saturday’s Maunsel Cup. Their signing sees the number of pre-season newbies at NP rise to ten… a record?
