After a summer of rumours and “tip-offs”, RDFC Blog can report with (almost) absolute certainty that Cambridge United`s Danny Potter will be joining the club for an undisclosed fee within the next few days.
Danny had had spells at Exeter, Chelmsfor and Weymouth before joining Canvey Island, where he made over 100 appearences. After a year-long spell at Stevenage Borough, Potter joined CU.
The Ipswich-born 29-year-old made nearly 50 appearences last term, quick becoming a fans favourite. Nontheless, he could not help CU rejoin the Football League, as Exeter beat them in the Wembley play-off final.
Danny looks set to leave a club in termoil. Already, Lee Boylan, Rob Wolleaston, Albrington have been sold, weakening the squad and strengthening fellow-promotion rivals. The fact that all of these transfers are for undisclosed fees further upsets the fans. Danny can be excused for wanting off that particular boat.
Should the deal go through it would show a spectacular U-turn on Potters part. Just a week or two ago he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: “There’s no way I want to leave, I want to be here and it looks like it’s going to be exciting times. I’ve got ambition and as long as the club look like they’re going to share my ambition, I don’t see any reason why I should be leaving. They’ve installed someone who I feel has got that ambition,” he added.
Potter had previously bene quoted as saying that he was unhappy at the mass exodus, and with Quinns departure.
