The announcement of Curtis Osano’s return to NP was met with a bitter-sweet response by the Rushden faithful. The 21 year-old made over 40 appearences for the Diamonds last term but, as one fan put it, “he got slowly worse last season”. Others were more happy to see him return, remembering his good form at the start of last season: “…he was great defensively and very dangerous when attacking. I just hope Hill can squeeze that out of him again…”
His return puts into doubt the role to be played by Scott Mitchell. With both Osano and SM playing as right-backs, nobody is sure as to who will take this position. An option is for CO to play as a centre-back, with SM then taking the right-back slot. Another is to have SM playing as a central-midfielder, as he is capable of doing.
MEANWHILE, Rushden have again been linked with a move for Posh’s ‘keeper Shwan Jalal. In an interview with the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Barry Fry said “We are … talking to Rushden regarding Jalal. We can’t make the package right on that one but will be speaking again.” Vaguely promising news for a club that, just 10 days prior to the first pre-seaosn friendly, still doesn’t have a first-choice goalie.
