Mark Tyler is the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a move to NP. He has been at Peterborough for 14 years, making 413 appearences for the club. He has also been capped at England U20 level, making appearences at the ’97 Fifa World Youth Championship. Experience, in his case, won’t be a problem.
The link became apparent after Barry Fry revealed his surprise at the lack of interest in Tyler. “I’m amazed there has been nothing for Mark apart from an enquiry from Rushden.” Tyler had been forced off the first team after the emergence of Joe Lewis, and was put on the transfer list at the end of last season.
However, Posh fans are split as to whether Tyler would even consider a move to NP. “Tyler is a legend“, one fan told me. “He wouldnt drop to the Blue Square Premier though. He still has plenty to offer at Lg. 1 level, in my view”
Another fan did not agree. “I wouldnt be so sure about that. He is a local lad, settled in the area and could commute to Rushden… If PUFC were to hand him a pay-off I could see it happening. Mark Tyler is caught between a rock and a hard place until somebody comes along who is prepared to help Posh out financially to secure his services.”
“Tyler might [join Rushden], if desperate, but he deserves better. He still warrants a League place, in my opinion.”
Rumours also hint that Posh goalie Shwan Jalal has completed his move to NP, according to a fan who “is sure” that he heard it announced on Radio Northants.
