On Tuesday, the club announced their official retained list, outlining which players will be staying at Nene Park for the new season, and which will be leaving. Also strange (worrying?) was the lack of information on Lawrence Lambley, whose pace impressed many last term. Below is the official list…
Dean Howell (Aldershot)
Paul Nichols (after an apparent bust-up with Garry Hill, he becomes a free agent)
Abdul El-Kholti (also to become a free agent)
Andy Gooding (free agent)
Alex Bolt (free agent)
Curtis Osano (returned to Reading after loan spell)
Conal Platt (returned to Weymouth)
Chris Hope, Jon Challinor, Curtis Woodhouse, Andy Burgess, Michael Rankine, Phil Gulliver, Lee Tomlin, Tom Shaw, Marcus Kelly, Sam Smith, Martyn Margason, Jake Beecroft and Michael Corcoran.

Overall, there were very few surprises, something that can be seen as a good thing. Nonetheless, the departure of El-Kholti came as something of a shock, given the player’s good form running up to the end of the season. Below is a slice of the reaction to the list, as written on The Diamonds Forum.
“Overall I’m more than happy about the players retained, especially Corcoran. Quite surprised El Kholti has gone though… ”
“Phil Gulliver has signed a new contract? Oh happy days!”
“By the looks of things, it doesnt appear that we have reduced the wage-bill very much!”
“Disapointed about Abdou leaving, but delighted about Corcoran!”
“I expected to see the back of Chris Hope to be honest.”
“I thought Chris Hope had a decent season, and I’m happy to see him stay on at Nene Park. I still think he can do a good job for us on the pitch”… [and off it apparently… Chris has been promoted to player-coach, as well as retaining the captain’ss armband]
