Rushden sit in the top-half of the table for the first time in 2008, after their 3-0 win over Ebbsfleet Utd. last night “leap-frogged” them over Kidderminster Harriers. Jon Challinor, Michael Rankine and Lee Tomlin all scored to ensure a fifth consecutive win for the Diamoinds; their first sequence of the kind since 2000. The win throroughly dented the Fleet‘s play-off hopes.
All three of our strikers scored last night. Jon Challinor in particular has hit quite a purple patch, scoring seven goals in his last five games, a feat reminiscent of Simeon Jackson’s exploits earlier in the season. Michael Rankine has also enjoyed his football of late, putting away three goals in his last four games, leaving his season league total just one shy of the double-digit mark.
Rushden now have a very enviable record of late, having taken 13 points from their last six games. Only Aldershot have a better record than Rushden, failing to win just once in the same time period. The Diamonds’ last league defeat came over a month ago, away at Burton Albion, and they are unbeaten at Nene Park in 2008, having last lost there in early-December; over 910 minutes of BSP football ago.
Heavy traffic marred the trip to the game, but it was a delay worth enduring.
“I left Kent almost orgasmic at the performence I had witnessed”
“…a hell of a result, and we seem to be heading in the right direction at last!”
“We beat a good side in style!”
“I’m still smiling from a great day out”
“This was a brilliant result, and it’s great that we’re finding the net so often now!”
Thanks to Dazzler, as ever, for the match pics.
